Rarotonga
My husband and I had a relatively short honeymoon, so we booked a trip to Rarotonga for our first anniversary. A glorious 10 days on the tropical island and boy was it amazing! Here's just a glimpse of the beautiful surroundings x
A few tips if you've never been to Rarotonga:
- Book any island night well in advance
- There are dogs everywhere on the roads and in public spaces/restaurants
- If it's peak season (like the NZ school holidays), book a scooter or car in advance as well
- DEFINITELY book Captain Tamas Lagoon Cruizes: a hilarious crew who take you out for a snorkel, delicious feed, and a bit of a show
- Book a couple restaurants (like Trader Jacks) in advance --> they get super busy!
- One of the best snorkelling spots we found was in Aroa (SW part of the island) right next to an (unfortunately) flooded restaurant: deep waters with beautiful fish!
- Most of all: RELAX and greet everyone with a warm 'Kia Orana'!
One of our favourite moments is meeting Ollie and his wife Mahea who own Ollies surf gear - locally made surf apparel. They were so welcoming and told us a bit of their story. There's nothing like meeting the locals and buying locally made goods!
For our last 4 nights we stayed at the Passage Villas (highly recommend). It was so peaceful, right by the beach (although you can't directly swim there).
Rarotonga is so peaceful, easygoing, stunning, and absolutely worth going to!
